North Vancouver District Fire is warning young people to steer clear of cliff jumping on the North Shore, before someone gets killed.
Assistant Fire Chief Mike Cairns says teens are jumping over fences and avoiding warning signs.
They will jump from the ledge near Twin Falls Bridge into the river 30 feet below.
Rescue crews were forced to jump into action Monday night after a young woman suffered a back injury.
“Kids are jumping off the rocks, and this year the water is exceptionally low. We are already into August conditions, so where kids were jumping last year into deeper water, they are jumping into much shallower water now.”
Crew performed a “swift water high angle rescue.”
The girl was taken to hospital for her injuries.
She also suffered mild hypothermia.
