Canadian Blood Services is looking to replenish the blood supply.
Summer’s a time when many donors are away, so additional donations are needed.
New mom Christine Kwan hemorrhaged during childbirth five weeks ago and needed a blood transfusion to recover….
“I think it’s really important that people realize that you can require two or three units at any given point, you can get up in the morning and think you’re starting a normal day and end up needing blood by the end of the day.”
Now Kwan is appealing for donors to come forward and give blood….
“I’m sure there are a lot of people who drive past this clinic everyday who realistically could come in here and donate a unit. Just skip the gym and Netflix and make a donation.”
David Patterson with Blood Services says there’s a fairly new app that makes booking an appointment easy….
“to figure out a time when it’s easier for them to come in and to interact in a way that’s a little bit more modern than calling a call centre and it’s been very successful, we have over 100-thousand downloads in the first six months.”
The most needed blood type is O negative.
