A political ethics watchdog is sounding the alarm about the closure of Vancouver’s Burrard Bridge for a giant yoga class.
Dermod Travis of IntegrityBC says it’s troubling that two of the event’s sponsors are also Liberal donors.
“This is an event that is being sponsored by three for-profit corporations, two of which have given five figure donations to the BC Liberal party, and have the precedent setting event of the Premier coming out to announce the event.”
“It is ironic that two of these three sponsors have been significant donors to the BC Liberal party, and it is rare that such an event would have the premier come out to make the initial announcement.”
Together, sponsors AltaGas and Lululemon have donated just shy of $37-thousand dollars to the BC Liberals since 2009.
Last week the Premier held a press conference announcing the bridge will be closed for seven hours on June 21.
Vancouver will host the world’s largest yoga class outside of India to celebrate world yoga day.
