Late last month, Ontario passed bill 80 — an act to amend the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Animals for Research Act with respect to the possession and breeding of orcas and administrative requirements for animal care– banning killer whale captivity.
Now, one former Vancouver Park Board Commissioner would like to see not only similar action here, but also, to take it one step further to include all whales.
Sarah Blythe joined Marcella Bernardo on the Sean Leslie show…
“It’s really hard on them, and they injure each other and they infected and the babies don’t do well in captivity and they die, and you can see at the Georgia Aquarium Beluga, and we’ve had many Belugas die here, and it’s just a tragedy and they are really way to intelligent to just have them swimming in a circle all day.”
Blythe says Marineland is still home to 43 Beluga whale and the bill should have included all captive whales.
Saturday hundreds showed up at a rally called “Empty the Tanks” calling for an end to whale captivity at the Vancouver Aquarium and around the world.
