“Something that could get you in jail or could get you killed in other places is to walk in high heels in public.”
But here in Vancouver, men and women popped those heels on Saturday to strut their stuff for a good cause.
Foundation of Hope hosted Strut 4 Hope at Sunset Beach to raise funds to support LGBT refugees, immigrants, and asylum seekers needing a little extra hand when they arrive in Canada.
An immigrant from Lebanon himself, Dr. Hasan Abdessamad explains the message behind the method.
“Walking in somebody else’s shoes and to celebrate the privilege we have here in this country and the things we take for granted that many other people anywhere else in the world could get them in jail or get them killed.”
He adds, raising funds in this first time event for Vancouver, allows LGBT refugees and newcomers get the supports and services they need to successfully integrate into Canadian life.
