The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has identified the man who died last night in what it says was likely a targeted shooting.
IHIT says 42 year old Edwin Shek-Yin Cheng of Richmond died from a gunshot wound in the parking lot of Nanaksar Gurdwara Gursikh Sikh Temple on Number 5 Road.
Cheng was known to police.
Just before 9:30 Friday night, Richmond RCMP were called out to a Sikh Temple on Number 5 Road in Richmond.
Officers found Cheng dead in his car.
Sgt. Stephanie Ashton with IHIT says investigators are still trying to piece together why Cheng was in that particular parking lot.
“What we’re really trying to focus on now is speaking with the multiple people who were in the area prior to the shooting. The temple was open 24 hours for Akhand Path prayer, we’re trying to speak with everyone who was in the area during that time for prayer”
However, IHIT says it has no reason to believe the public – including those who attend that particular temple – is at any risk.
The temple will still be open for prayers.
IHIT is asking witnesses to come forward.
If you saw anything, you’re asked to call IHIT.
