Rather than relying on a budget every year the Vancouver Park Board may look at another source of funding.
Park Board Chair John Coupar says staff will consider a plan for the establishment of a Parks Foundation.
“This is a way of having a fund that could be used as an endowment but we’ll have a report come forward in about five months and we’ll see the options this is really just a first step.”
The Vancouver Police and Fire departments both have foundations.
“Certainly sometimes when there’s shortfalls in terms of specific equipment or perhaps something we want to add to a park it would allow us to respond much quicker.”
Park Board staff will recommend the best way forward.
Many other cities have Parks Foundations including Calgary and Seattle.
