An organization set up to attract more energy investment in B.C. has been given another $5 million by the provincial government.
Since 2005, GeoScience BC has been given nearly $52 million.
Thursday’s funding is to encourage more exploration and “informed land-use” decisions.
Despite the government claiming energy companies are lined up at the door to invest in B.C., Energy Minister Bill Bennett insists this money is well-spent.
“They have generated over $100 million worth of exploration in British Columbia, so that $100 million of exploration represents hundreds of jobs. It also represents potential mine development and oil and gas development that’s in the hundreds of millions of dollars.”
Bennett adds, thanks to support from GeoScience BC, this province is second only to Ontario for this type of resource development.
