The Surrey firefighting community is grappling with another loss of one of their own.
Jay Easton was recovering in hospital after a motorcycle crash a few weeks ago, when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest Tuesday morning and passed away.
Surrey Firefighters Association President Mike McNamara says he was incredibly passionate about his job and the greater good.
It’s the third death that’s rocked the department in the past three months.
Two other members committed suicide, including Kevin Hegarty, after a battle with post-traumatic stress disorder.
Hegarty had been with the Surrey Fire Service for nearly 20 years, advocated for mental health, and worked with the B.C. Burn Fund.
