Alberta Progressive Conservative vice-president Jordan Lien attacked that province’s Health Minister, Sarah Hoffman, by calling her “our morbidly obese health minister.”
Clare Beckton, executive director of the Centre for Women in Politics and Public Leadership, suggested this type of comment would never have been made about a male politician.
Gaetan Barrette, the Health Minister of Quebec, is also overweight. Citizens in that province initiated a petition to have him removed from his post because of his weight.
Is this sexism or does the health minister have a responsibility to be healthy?
