Vancouver’s mayor says the final bill isn’t in yet, but he figures the city spent “hundreds of thousands of dollars” cleaning up last month’s fuel spill in English Bay.
Gregor Robertson suggests the city may never recover the costs.
“Who’s going to recover that and are we going to be compensated? The big worry is if there’s a big oil spill that businesses, all of us here in Vancouver, are going to pay the cost for it. … There are not enough funds to cover the cost of these and recovering the funds through a legal process is very difficult.”
Robertson says city staff is working to tally up all the numbers and will be reporting back to council.
