Graduation dresses are often the highlight of grad season for many leaving high school.
But for one Victoria graduate, her dress was extra special.
Erinne Paisley made her graduation dress out of her old math homework, and wore it as a statement to her ceremony.
“I created my grad dress out of my old pre-calculus math homework, and on it I wrote ‘I’ve received my education, not every woman has that right. Malala.org’ And I wore that to grad.”
Paisley donated the $250.00 she would have used to buy a dress to the Malala Yousafzai fund, which helps girls around the world get better access to schooling.
“It helps to advocate for women’s rights to education whether that’s building schools, advocating. They just try to help end the face that there’s over 62-million girls that don’t have access to education around the world. There’s almost double the population of Canada worth of girls around the world that do not have access to an education.”
She’s also hoping to auction off the dress online to raise more money for the charity.
