Sepp Blatter has stepped down as FIFA president, just days after he was re-elected to a fifth term.
He told reporters in Zurich on Tuesday: “This mandate does not seem to be supported by everybody in the world of football.”
FIFA has been plunged into a corruption scandal, with investigation being carried out by both Switzerland and the United States.
Vancouver soccer legend and Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi calls the move an opportunity for change.
“The best outcome will be a transparency and a credibility that’s associated with the governing body.”
Lenarduzzi says what’s important now is that FIFA works towards repairing its reputation and earns back its trust with fans.
Blatter has promised to call fresh elections.
