Some good news on the fire – now confirmed to be human caused – near Buntzen Lake.
Marg Drysdale with the Coastal Fire Centre says crews have made progress in fighting the fire – which is situated near a popular camping area.
“The fire that’s at Buntzen Lake is now 80 percent contained. It is on a very steep slope, so there is a small percentage of the fire that isn’t contained, but will be mopped up.”
A number of groups – including Sasamat’s Volunteer Fire Department, the Wildfire Management Branch and the Vancouver Police Marine Unit have been chipping in to help battle the blaze.
Crews are expected to start the mop up Sunday.
