“We miss Candace and today is her birthday.”
Eight years later, a Chilliwack father continues to hold out hope his daughter is alive and well.
Barry Shpeley celebrated Candace’s 32nd birthday surrounded by family.
Barry Shpeley’s daughter Candace hasn’t been seen since March 2007, but that doesn’t keep the family from celebrating her birthday.
“We went out for her favourite lunch today and it’s just been a Candace day.”
Candace disappeared, leaving three kids behind.
Shpeley says nothing has been done to find his daughter in the past two years, so he put a notice for her birthday in the paper to send a message.
“That she’s not forgotten and you know just because we haven’t been doing anything publicly for her doesn’t mean we haven’t been thinking about her.”
Shpeley says police were reluctant to take the missing person’s case when she disappeared.
And says he doesn’t believe she would willingly stay away from her children.
“She went missing on March 31st and nothing was done by the police and nothing’s been done by the police for the last two years about anything about her.”
The only person of interest in the young mother’s disappearance died in prison in 2011.
