Fire crews have finished mopping up a blaze that broke out this weekend near Buntzen Lake.
“What we do now is place it into patrols so that periodically we go back and check on it and make sure that there’s no hot spots or nothing’s been missed on it.”
The cause of the 0.2 hectare fire remains under investigation – but Marg Drysdale with the BC Wildfire Management Branch believes it was human caused.
“If it is found that the cause is human caused and they can determine who started the fire, then of course penalties, fines and potential jail time are all involved in anything that results in a wild fire.”
Across the province over the weekend, seven other fires were sparked and are also human caused.
