The Pattullo Bridge will get its upgrades, but work won’t start for about a year.
Seismic upgrades and rehabilitation work will take about 18 months starting mid-2016.
During that time, two lanes will remain open, one in each direction during the day, but all lanes will be closed at night.
The sidewalk will be closed to pedestrians and cyclists and heavy trucks will be prohibited from using the bridge.
The Pattullo is 78 years old and a new crossing is part of the Mayor’s Council ten year transit plan.
Officials say they will not give truck drivers a break on the toll on the Port Mann bridge, which is an alternate route.
