The organization that represents the provinces ten thousand doctors elected Doctor Brian Day as President-Elect of Doctors of BC yesterday.
Now, Doctor Allan Ruddiman, the runner up who lost by a single vote is now requesting a recount.
The results of the recount should be known sometime next week.
Drex thinks that a common sense approach to the BC healthcare system is best and he says we should be looking at the benefits of a two-tiered system. Drex says we’re always hearing about how clogged the waiting lists are here in B.C. With a 2nd tier to that system, Drex says it may potentially cut some of those long waiting lists, but he does say that the idea needs a lot of discussion and consultation before it can work. Drex is an avid supporter of a two-tiered health system, as the two-tier health care system in Australia saved his father’s life a few years ago when he discovered he had kidney cancer. That operation, which would have been elective in the public system would have had him on the waiting list for 2-3 years, but because Drex’s parents chose to pay into a private system as well as the usual government system, the surgery was done within three weeks.
