One of two Pacific white-sided dolphins at the Vancouver Aquarium has died.
The twenty-one-year-old Hana died Sunday, days she underwent groundbreaking emergency surgery to correct a twisted bowel.
Aquarium head veterinarian Dr. Martin Haulena says the condition was most likely a spontaneous event.
“All we knew was that food was not passing from the small intestine to the large intestine. The pathologist has confirmed that that opening is abnormally narrow.”
Hana was found stranded in Japan and brought to the aquarium where she stayed for 12 years.
