“Right now it’s exactly 50/50. So half of our fires are human caused and half of our fires are lightning caused.”
The Wildfire season has started early and it’s in full force, especially in the Prince George area.
Provincial Fire Information Officer Navi Saini says there are 86 wildfires burning across the province.
“We did see a lot of dry lightning in many areas of the province yesterday. And as a result of this we are responding to 12 new lightning caused wildfires.”
Saini adds based on the anticipated new wildfire starts, they’re strategically allocating resources across the province.
She’s also asking for some help from the public.
“It’s very important that we do keep the human caused wildfire numbers low, just because when lightning caused fires do start they’re not preventable like human cased wildfires area.”
