It’s been more than a week since a tragic report on the life of a 19-year-old who died on the Downtown Eastside was released.
Paige – a legally blind aboriginal girl – died after aging out of the foster care system she spend most of her life in.
Now, her aunt is speaking about what needs to be done to fix the system and prevent more tragedies from happening.
Fran told Shane Woodford on The Sean Leslie Show earlier today the government needs to stop placing youth in houses around the Downtown Eastside.
“Get them out of there, I’m sure there are other houses they could place them in away from there. I mean her window was right across from Oppenheimer…people could just reach in and hand her alcohol and or booze.”
Fran is also calling on First Nation bands to do more to teach youth about trying to avoid drugs and addiction.
