After hearing teachers could possibly have to pay for parking in Vancouver as early as October of this year, opposing ideas were brought up in a school board committee meeting Wednesday night.
Vancouver School Board Trustee, Mike Lombardi, says it’s his recommendation to NOT implement the pay parking plan.
“Because we had to cut 11 million dollars out of our budget, the board was faced to make a choice of that nature which is not a good decision. But, we had to balance our budget.”
“Numerous questions from teachers, from CUPE, from trustees. Lots of unanswered questions and many many questions about the detail, how it would work, who it would apply to, who it wouldn’t apply to.”
However, Lombardi believes this move comes as a result of chronic underfunding from the provincial government.
We’ll find out more after the motion is discussed at the June 1st Vancouver School Board meeting.
