Vancouver’s tourism sector is hoping the selection of TV’s new Bachelorette will give the city a boost.
29-year-old Vancouver dance instructor Kaitlyn Bristowe has been named the latest star of the reality show.
Tourism Vancouver’s Sonu Purhar says it’s hard to measure the impact of the selection, but believes it will be positive.
“It’s the type of advertising that you absolutely love,” she says. “Somebody as loved and admired and kind of looked up to and is fascinating as the Bachelorette, or a major celebrity, is from Vancouver, or speaks even the name Vancouver, people stand up and take notice.”
The first time a Vancouverite was selected to be the Bachelorette — Jillian Harris in 2009 — the city was featured heavily on the major U.S. network show, and helped launch Harris’ television career.
