The federal government has approved a request to put 100 more RCMP officers in Surrey, as well as more funding to reduce gang-related crime.
National Revenue Minister Kerry-Lynne Findlay made the long-awaited announcement today in Surrey.
“I am pleased to announce today, that Minister Steven Blaney has approved the request from his British Columbia counterpart to add an additional 100 RCMP boots on the ground here in Surrey.”
The extra resources have been in the works since the death of hockey mom Julie Paskall in December 2013 sparked outrage from the community.
Findlay has also promised three and a half million dollars over five years to the Surrey Gang Reduction program which targets vulnerable young people.
