The fallout from a damning report by B.C.’s representative for children and youth on a 19-year-old who died after spending her entire life in the system continues to gain momentum.
The report by Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond says 19-year-old Paige ultimately died from child abuse and neglect.
Coordinator of the Inner City Safety Society Judy McGuire says unfortunately stories like Paige’s are nothing new.
“This is not the first instance of a child dying in that area, it is certainly not the first instance that children in that area have been brought to the ministry. We have not seen a response team, we have not seen any major changes. We are still having the same problems. Often with the same kids.”
Speaking to Liza Yuzda on The Sean Leslie Show, McGuire says the government failed to help Paige get out of the Downtown East Side, and that they did not properly protect her.
