The father of a Moncton teenager who made headlines after fighting back against her school’s dress code is speaking out in support of his daughter.
Lauren Wiggins was given a detention after wearing a dress to school which exposed her shoulders.
This violates her school dress code; one that the grade 12 student called sexist in a letter to her vice principal.
“As Lauren says in her letter, schools are the social building block and teach them how to communicate. And when she approached this vice principal, he did not do this, he just kicked her out.”
Her father Paul Wiggins says that when Lauren gave the letter to her vice principal, she was suspended.
“I have always said rules are rules and rules are there for a reason. If you think something is unfair, if you think it is something that you need to question, I said feel free.”
Wiggins says Lauren has been overwhelmed by the support and response to her story.
Wiggins was speaking to Liza Yuzda on the Sean Leslie show this afternoon.
