Critics of a proposed jet fuel storage facility on the Fraser River say damage from a potential oil spill could be catastrophic.
Director of concerned citizen’s group VAPOR, Jim Ronback, says the storage facility and pipeline to YVR would store 80 million liters of jet fuel along the South Arm of the Fraser.
“It doesn’t make sense at all to locate a hazardous facility like this right next to condominiums, and a sport and entertainment complex and SilverCity.”
Ronback says if the oil stored caught fire, it would be equivalent to the energy of a small atom bomb.
The Supreme Court of BC is currently debating on the inadequacy of the public consultation surrounding the proposed storage facilities.
