There has been a big spike in car thefts in Abbotsford this month.
Abbotsford police Constable Ian MacDonald says in the first 12 days of May 37 cars have been swiped.
It is a number that seems excessive.
“And I would agree with you. It’s a large number for us, and it should be a large number to the citizens of Abbotsford. What we would normally see in a twelve day period might be closer to eighteen, so this is a significant spike, and obviously we need to do something about it.”
MacDonald says crooks, some from Abbotsford and some not, are stealing cars in the community to commit crimes there and elsewhere.
He says the majority of the stolen cars were ten years old or older with no anti-theft device.
