Little more than a month after she was fired as BC’s first Auditor General for Local Government, Basia Ruta is suing for wrongful dismissal.
Documents filed in BC Supreme Court indicate her termination was without cause and Ruta still considers herself to be the municipal auditor general.
She’s seeking undisclosed financial compensation and benefits.
She was fired by Community Development Minister Coralee Oakes in March, almost three years after she was appointed.
At the time, her failure to produce more than three reports over two years and her refusal to take part in a review of her performance were cited as reasons for her dismissal.
Ruta claims she found out from the media.
Lawyers for the provincial government have 30 days to respond.
