Severely beaten man may never fully recover from assault
“They needed to intubate him. Both of his eyes were swollen shut, several stitches. He was beaten quite badly.”
Vancouver police are looking for whoever attacked a local man who’d been trying to sell various items on Craigslist.
Last November, a 59-year-old man was beaten inside his East Vancouver apartment and knocked unconscious.
Constable Brian Montague says they believe his attacker targeted the place because the victim had posted several items, such as jewelry, for sale on the website Craigslist.
Police weren’t notified until almost two hours after the assault.
“We believe he was unconscious for well over an hour before he had the ability to walk to a neighbour to ask for help.”
Montague says the man has been in and out of hospital since the attack, and will need assistance for the rest of his life.
Police encourage people to make Craigslist deals in public places
Last month, the Vancouver Police Department announced that people could make their Craigslist transactions in the front lobby of the Vancouver Police Headquarters at 2120 Cambie Street.
Police have released a few images from surveillance footage and have released a description of a man they are calling a “person of interest”.
Description of person of interest:
- White male
- Between 25 and 30 years old
- About 5’9 tall
- Wearing a black “DC” branded ball cap with a green brim, black pants, and a dark jacket over a grey hoodie at the time of the assault.
Anyone who knows the suspect or has any information is asked to contact the Vancouver police rat 604-7171-3321 or contact Crimestoppers.
