Premier Christy Clark is suggesting Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s push for duty on rebar will make life worse for first time condo buyers in BC.
“The federal government’s decision to put a duty on rebar coming into the province could raise the price of an average condo in Vancouver by six or seven thousand dollars.”
Premier Clark offered up that statement after saying she’s not sure imposing a foreign ownership tax on property is a good idea.
“We are lobbying very hard to try to get them to offer an exception to BC. There is no one in the country that ships rebar to BC and no one that will.”
While foreign ownership is already restricted in Australia, Clark says she’s worried doing that here will hurt anyone depending on the equity in their home to get a loan.
