Vancouver residents: if you want a more affordable way to commemorate a person or event, you’ll soon have a new option.
Vancouver Park Board Commissioner Catherine Evans says dedicating a plaque on a bench has normally been the go-to.
But it’s expensive.
“Much more affordable option for one thing. Having a tree planted can mean a lot to people. It’s more affordable, it’s a living thing and can provide a lovely place for people to come and celebrate.”
Evans says commemorative shrub and tree planting in Vancouver parks was unanimously approved of at Monday’s meeting.
The next goal is to get a report in by no later than September on the details for this program and hopefully have it up and running by fall.
