Have you ever wanted to stick it to your doubters? Even better, how about your peers who don’t respect you? Rickie Fowler in seven days turn doubters into believers.
This past Monday, Sports Illustrated released their annual golf issue and among the pages was a poll that players are asked to fill out anonymously. One of the questions on this survey was, ‘Who is the PGA’s most overrated golfer?’
The answer with 24% of the vote was Rickie Fowler in a tie with Brit Ian Poulter. There isn’t one of us that wouldn’t want to be Rickie Fowler and overrated. He is just 26 years old, yet this overrated bum has won over $20 million in career earnings…at 26. Last year he was only the third player in the history of the PGA Tour to finish in the top 5 in all four majors. The other two golfers to do that were named Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, pretty good company.
Fowler is the face of the young and hip PGA crowd. His flashy attire is duplicated by many youngsters that follow him out to his tour stops and Puma has made a fortune putting his face on their clothing line.
Rickie was a winner before the week began…then he won the Player’s Championship yesterday, the unofficial 5th major in golf because of the strength of the field and the toughness of TPC Sawgrass. Fowler stared down his competition and then went to a 4th playoff hole, the iconic 17th hole, the Island green, and stuffed his tee shot to three feet before bagging the putt to win the tourney and the 1.8 million dollars that went with it.
If he was overrated, he stuffs that ball in the drink. Instead he is hoisting the crystal.
Rickie Fowler said he laughed when he saw the poll. The 76% of golfers who didn’t vote Fowler as the most overrated must now be gnashing their teeth…because that 24% that hater Rickie Fowler may have just lit the fuse to another great golfer that has his game put together.
