The dead whale found in Burrard Inlet has been towed to the Seaspan dock so a necropsy can be carried out.
The whale came into Port Sunday on the bow of the cruise ship “The Seven Seas Navigator”, that was returning from Alaska.
Paul Cottrell with the Fisheries Department says the massive whale, up to 20 meters long, was then tied up to a dock before being towed away this morning for a necropsy that will be carried out this afternoon.
“And hopefully we’re able to determine cause of death and the time line of when the animal died.”
The mammal is believed to be a male ‘fin’ whale, which are the second largest whales in the world after blue whales.
