Green Party of Canada leader Elizabeth May says she’s worried Bill C-51 will make the country less safe now that it’s been passed in the House of Commons and headed to the Senate.
The bill would increase powers for groups such as the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.
May is concerned about the removal of oversight, which she says could lead to conflicting investigations by rival agencies.
Speaking with CKNW’s The Sean Leslie Show, she says that could lead to corrupted investigations or botched infiltration of radical groups.
“Really dangerous. One expert from the UK and MI-5 says Canada’s security system is a tragedy waiting to happen.”
May says the bill also tramples civil liberties, while failing to adequately define terrorism.
