A week after shooting and killing two dogs who killed a man’s chickens, the Elkford man has expressed remorse in an interview with Global BC, for what he did in a moment of anger.
“When I put the first dog down, the other one came running over there. So I shot it, knocked it down.”
James Bonnell says he went to check on his chickens on May 1st and found a dog sitting there killing them and another growling at him.
Nine chickens in total dead and two still missing.
Bonnell says he felt he needed to protect not only his chickens, but himself as well.
He shot the dogs, then took them to a field to put them out of their misery according to his statement.
“I wish things had been different and it bothers me. I want to be a nice person. I don’t like people saying bad things about me.”
No charges have been laid but the SPCA says there could be some under the Criminal Code of Canada or Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
