Despite only a 29.9 percent vote in the transit plebiscite so far – Surrey City Councillor and Interim Mayor Barbara Steele says turnout for the plebiscite seems to be on par with their civic elections.
“Because it was a mail out it’s always a bit of a problem. Hopefully people haven’t kind of thrown it out or lost it. If they have they can get another one at elections BC. So continue to work and we continue to be optimistic.”
Steele says it has nothing to do with telling residents Surrey will get the light rail train even without the ‘yes vote’.
“I don’t think it was. I think it’s part of what we have and I think that this way is the best way because the region shares the cost. And I think people get that.”
There are three more weeks for people to mail in their ballots.
