A few weeks after plans to build a new hospital in downtown Vancouver were confirmed, St. Paul’s is back on the city’s annual heritage endangered list.
“Once again, the Burrard Building –which is our focus– is threatened with demolition.”
Anthony Norfolk with the Heritage Vancouver Society says that particular building has great historical significance, but there are no longer any plans to protect it.
“Putting it on rubber stops, basically, to isolate it in the case of an earthquake. That’s what we liked.”
The 121-year old St. Paul’s, slated to be replaced by a new billion dollar complex near Main and Terminal, is number two on this year’s Top Ten Watch List.
Number one is Point Grey Secondary which is now 87 years old.
