Letters have begun to arrive for some Telus internet users, warning them to expect a big bump in their next bill.
“Just, like, paying my bill right, always the same bill every month. And then all of a sudden I get a letter that’s like ‘all right you are going to owe us X-amount of dollars for this month because you went this month over, and it’s like why, and why all of a sudden.”
East Vancouver resident Kevin Lionais was surprised to learn his bill could nearly double.
It comes as Telus phases in new ‘Usage Based Billing’ which is due to take effect June first.
On its website the company says only heavy internet users who exceed their plan should see a new charge.
But Lionais says he already pays enough for what he gets, and is shopping around to possibly switch providers.
