A Surrey man living in Puerto Vallarta says despite recent violence in that city and a government of Canada travel warning – the popular tourist destination is safe.
Nick Girgulis, who divides his time between BC and Mexico, says he ‘s so confident in the security of his second home that he has family coming to visit this week.
He says it was unnerving Friday when drug cartel attacks torched eleven gas stations and banks in the area, but the situation was quickly back to normal and he was on the beach Saturday.
“To me it’s as safe as it was last week, it was a little blip in the radar. You know I live in Surrey so there’s violence going on in Surrey that’s almost worse that what’s here.”
The violence last week in the Mexican state of Jalisco killed 15 people and 19 were injured.
