The lawyer for a Metro Vancouver developer is disputing claims Michael Ching is a fugitive facing corruption charges in China.
In a statement released on Ching’s behalf, David Lunny says allegations of fraud and embezzlement have been ‘false and hurtful.’
He insists no charges have been approved against his client who became a permanent resident of Canada in 1996 and there are ‘no grounds for any charges.’
Lunny says Ching was never a state official, he did not flee from anything and he has never been in hiding.
He also blames accusations coming out of China on a change in the leadership of that country’s ‘political regime.’
The 45-year-old Ching has taken legal action to stay in Canada.
