Disappointment is being expressed by Vancouver’s “Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Team” members, who were hoping to be dispatched to Nepal to help in the aftermath of the earthquake.
Vancouver assistant fire chief Joe Foster says it’s the call of the Federal Government to send the team.
He thinks it all comes down to money.
“I know Canada has committed five-million-dollars in aide to the Nepal region. It would be my hope that some of that money would be set aside to send a response team such as our Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Team or one of the four teams in Canada, we only have four in Canada.”
Foster says experience in a real situation rather than a simulated training exercise would be invaluable.
The team also wasn’t sent to Christchurch, New Zealand when a big quake hit there.
