With just a month left before the transit plebiscite, the head of the Mayors Council on Transportation says they’ll be pushing for a “Yes” vote until the last day.
Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson is offering assurance taxpayers who are concerned what starts as a point five percent increase to PST in metro Vancouver won’t stay at that rate.
“There is absolutely no plan to increase it in the next ten years. The next ten years we’ll be using this funding to acutally build out the system and increase the service all over the regions.”
Speaking to CKNW’s Sean Leslie, Robertson says the distrust and dislike of Translink remains a challenge, and Mayors themselves have concerns about not having control over the annual operating budget.
While there is room for improvement, he says the transit system here ranks quite highly against other North Amercian systems.
