Vancouver is a step closer to setting up free wi-fi at dozens of city-run locations.
Councillors have approved staff’s recommendation to give Telus the contract to provide access at 43 locations over five years.
These include golf courses, pools and community centres.
The city’s chief digital officer says the access won’t cost the city or wi-fi users, wouldn’t collect personal info, and would have no data cap.
Officials at Shaw had asked to install access to their system, despite not being chosen in the bidding process.
The first locations are expected to be set up this fall.
