Over 61,000 people will be in full voice at the Big OH No in Montreal, as the Montreal Impact host Mexican soccer giants Club America in the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League final.
This is the same tournament Whitecaps FC will begin play in August, as the Canadian representatives.
The Impact currently reside in the basement of Major League Soccer this season with two losses and two draws.
Last week at one of the toughest stadiums in the world to play, the Azteca in Mexico City, the Impact managed an away goal in a 1-1 draw.
Montreal’s captain is former Whitecap Nigel Reo-Coker. For the match they will be without goalie Evan Bush because of yellow card accumulation. They will be going with their third string goalie or an emergency NASL signee.
The odds are stacked. Although this will be Americas third match in eight days. They are one title away from a record tying sixth CONCACAF championship.
No Canadian or MLS squad has ever won this event. The last nine winners hail from Mexico.
A nil-nil draw would clinch the title for Montreal.
A win and they meet the best in the world at the FIFA club championship at Christmas in Japan which would include Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona or Juventus.
It’s is amazing anything can silence a Montreal Canadiens playoff run. Tomorrow night, the Habs take a step back as the Impact try and shock the soccer world!
