Yet once again, Vancouver’s Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Team is staying put, instead of being deployed to Nepal.
Captain Brian Hutchinson says the last time Canada Task Force 1 was deployed internationally was in 2005, after Hurricane Katrina.
“Canada Task Force 1 was the first team to make it into St. Bernard Parish in Louisiana to provide assistance at that time.”
Since then, its been deployed to the Johnson Landing slide and flooding in Calgary.
This time around, Canada has deployed its Disaster Assistance Response Team instead.
“Vancouver Fire Rescue Services has not been given any reason.”
Public Safety Canada didn’t answer CKNW’s questions about the decision not to deploy either.
