CN Rail has launched its annual public safety awareness campaign with hopes of again educating people on the dangers of trespassing.
“Our theme for this year is ‘See Tracks, Think Train’ because obviously, we want people in the communities through which CN runs, to go home safe from their jobs, from their schools and their activities.”
Constable Cynthia Stotz with CN Rail Police says people need to be constantly reminded.
“There’s a lot of optical illusions. People misjudge the speed of the train, how fast it’s going, what track it’s coming on, how far away it is and all these things combined, can cause people to be hurt and killed. They think they’re going to get out of the way in time and that doesn’t happen.”
Last year, BC recorded 21 crossing collisions with trains and 13 were labeled as ‘trespassing’ collisions.
