As Coast Guard officials continue to insist the closure of the Kitsilano base was not a factor in the delayed response to this month’s English Bay oil spill, Vancouver’s mayor says it’s too early to consider legal action.
“The monitoring would be the big issue, the health concerns and impacts on environment of our beaches remains a big concern for use.
But Gregor Robertson isn’t ruling that out.
“We’re considering what next actions take place, but the focus has really been on getting beyond the actual incident and dealing with the oil that is still in the water and making sure that our beaches are safe and that people aren’t exposed to the toxic chemicals.”
The amount of oil spilled is still estimated to be at least 2,700 litres.
