Officials have come to a conclusion in the cause of last month’s chemical fire at Port Metro Vancouver.
Vancouver Fire Captain Brian Hutchinson says it was undetermined and accidental.
“Due to the fact the container was still secure and the time that it spent stuck in port in various locations, what actually precipitated the fire to start and due to the extent of damage inside the container, it can’t actually be determined.”
The fire sent plumes of pungent smoke into the air in early March, prompting officials to issue a shelter-in-place order for the neighbourhood.
It shut down all Port Metro Vancouver terminals on the waterfront, and residents and employees in the area were told to clear out.
