“It can be described as a miracle that nobody else was hurt, and even the pilot didn’t suffer any worse injuries than he had.”
“The only place I’ve ever seen it happen is the movies.”
That from the Delta Police Department, after an ultra light plane made an emergency landing on a busy highway during rush hour on Wednesday.
It was just after 6:00 pm when drivers on highway 91 between 72nd and 64th Avenue witnessed an amphibian ultra light aircraft crash land into the median a feet away from their vehicles.
Acting Sgt. Sarah Swallow says the 49 year old pilot was forced to make an emergency landing when the plane lost power.
“Certainly that is one of our busiest roads through the area, and at that time at night, I would be interested to speak to the drivers that saw the plane, did they see him and move out of the way? Was it lucky that he just picked that area? But it is, it is a miracle that nobody was injured.”
Southbound traffic was shut down for several hours.
